NEWSLETTER - LIPOSUCTION
This month’s spotlight procedure is liposuction. Liposuction is the surgical removal of specific areas of excess fatty tissue. Despite good health and reasonable fitness level, some people may still have disproportionate areas of fat on their bodies. These may be due to heredity or family traits rather than a lack of weight control or fitness. If you are bothered by excess fat deposits, located anywhere on your face or body, that do not respond to diet or exercise, then liposuction may be right for you. In general, liposuction slims and reshapes specific areas of the body by removing localized or regional excess fat deposits, thus enhancing body image.
Liposuction is not a treatment for obesity, nor is it an effective treatment for cellulite. Liposuction can, however, permanently reshape body contours that are caused by excessive fatty deposits in specific areas. Special considerations may be necessary for individuals with diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease or previous surgery to the area.
Liposuction is a surgical procedure. It requires incisions in or near the area to be suctioned for insertion of a suction cannula. Usually these incisions are so small they only require one stitch to close. It is also possible to reinject some of the removed fat to fill in wrinkles or hollow areas of the face or depressions anywhere on the body.
You may schedule an appointment by calling The Efird Clinic at 901-737-2345.
Is liposuction right for you?
Your first step in finding out is to schedule a consultation with Dr. Efird. Together with Dr. Efird you will evaluate what your expectations are and decide on the appropriate procedure for your specific body type. If only a very small area is involved, it may be able to be done in our office. Most of our liposuctions are performed at a local surgery center and you will be an outpatient. This means that your will arrive early in the morning for your surgery, and will be back in your own bed that night. Compression garments may be used during the healing process to help skin conform to the reduced body contours, and to reduce swelling. These are available through The Efird Clinic.
Our spotlight patient this month is Cindy.
Cindy is 32 and has always had what she called 'saddlebags'. She told us that “I always hated worrying how I looked in clothes” and “it seems my whole life is spent working on camouflaging these hips”. Cindy‘s mom had the same problem... so she felt like she was 'cursed'.
“When I came to the Efird Clinic I was so impressed. Everyone was so kind and knowledgeable and I finally felt some hope. I was also very excited when I found out that Dr. Efird would do three areas for one price. I had signed up for the surgery before I left the office that day”
“My experience at the surgery center was excellent. I was put into a private room before surgery and Dr. Efird came in and went over everything with me again, and marked the areas to be worked on. When I woke up, I had the surgical ‘girdle’ on. I felt a little bruised and battered, but wasn’t nearly as uncomfortable as I thought I would be.”
Several weeks later Cindy is delighted… She feels happier about her body than she ever thought possible. Shopping is no longer a camouflage event!
